I-T returns hit 4cr, 68% of Dec 31 tally; no July 31 deadline extension

Despite a social media campaign to defer the deadline for filing income tax returns, the government is ruling out an extension, arguing annual filing by individuals crossed the 4-crore mark on Thursday evening. This translates into 68% of the filing until December 31, 2021, when the deadline had been extended due to the second wave of Covid-19 and glitches with the I-T portal.
